Baby-Naming Ceremonies

These are known in the Christian world as "Christening" or Baptism ceremonies. "Christening" is the word usually used within western society, but this need not deter non-Christians from using the term since the "Christ Spirit" has a much wider sacred and mystical meaning than most of us appreciate.

Whatever we choose to call these ceremonies - and no ONE name covers all eventualities - they are a beautiful way of welcoming a newly-born soul onto this planet, and into our lives.  Even the term "baby-naming" is misleading, since such a ceremony may of course be used for older children, or even adults where appropriate.

As with any Interfaith ceremony, these naming ceremonies are tailor-designed to suit the needs and wishes of the family for whom they are given.  Again, as with any Interfaith ceremony, elements from any of the world's religions may play a part - for example, a Hindu chant, a Sufi mystical poem, a Christian hymn, an Islamic reading, a Native American devotional saying - anything which honours the presence of this soul on the planet, and which calls to mind our sacredness as elements of the Divine intelligence which permeates the universe.

Atheists and Humanists should not switch off here.  Equivalent ceremonies can easily be designed to conform to your beliefs.

A Cautionary Note: It is as well to consider the sensitivities of the child's grandparents and Godparents. People of an older generation may well be of a more traditional frame of mind than the parents - although this certainly doesn't follow!.  (The newly-named infant will, indeed, probably grow up and mature with his or her own way of viewing the universe.)

So, what does it cost?

A general guide is around £130. However, the precise fee for a baby-naming ceremony, or similar will be negotiated between us, and will depend upon its degree of complexity.  We will agree this as soon as I become familiar with your requirements.
